TULSA, OKLA. -- The USC men's tennis team's Peter Lucassen made another strong move toward a place in the upcoming ITA/D'Novo All-American Championships main draw with another win in qualifying rounds in Tulsa, Okla., today. The senior snagged a three-set win in today's second round of action to take a spot in tomorrow's third round for a chance to advance to the main draw.
No. 90-ranked Lucassen opened up the qualifying tournament with a smooth 6-3, 6-3 win in the first round yesterday, beating Penn State's Eddie Bourchier -- seeded 24-32 in qualifying -- to take a step into today's second round. There, Lucassen went up against Oklahoma State's Rifat Biktyakov. Lucassen reigned supreme in a three-setter, taking down Biktyakov 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to advance.
Lucassen will face 12-seeded Ivan Salec of Radford tomorrow (Oct. 6) in the third round for the right to move into the main draw this week.
