IRVINE, CALIF. - The No. 2 USC women's water polo team will play for the UC Irvine Invitational title this afternoon after tacking up a 10-5 win over No. 4 California in today's semifinals. The Women of Troy received four goals from Kally Lucas in the win, which lifts USC to 10-1 on the year. The Trojans' lone loss on the year came to Stanford earlier this month, making this afternoon's championship game in Irvine a key rematch for USC. The Trojans and the undefeated Cardinal square off in the title match at 5:15 p.m. at Anteater Aquatic Complex.
USC pitched a shutout to open up today's semifinal clash with Cal, taking a 2-0 lead to start. The Bears got a couple goals to go in the second, but the Trojans pinned up three more in the frame to take a 5-2 lead at the half. In the third, the USC offense kept clicking as the Trojan lead bumped up to 9-3 entering the final period of play. As the match closed out on a decisive 10-5 USC win, goalie Tumua Anae collected 10 saves in the cage while four Trojans each finished with multiple-goal outings. Lucas led all with four, followed by two apiece for Joelle Bekhazi, Dominique Sardo and Patricia Jancso.
