
Trojans Fall 158-136 To Cal

The No. 13 USC men's swimming and diving team (7-2) lost to No. 4 California (5-1), 158-136, on a rainy Friday afternoon at the McDonald's Swim Stadium on the USC campus. USC senior Zoltan Povazsay handily won the 500y freestyle with a time of 4:26.96, qualifying for an NCAA "B" Cut.
Sophomore Trojan Richard Charlesworth finished second in the 500y freestyle behind Povazsay with a time of 4:29.87. Charlesworth also won the 1000y freestyle in 9:22.46. In the 200y free Povazsay finished second as USC finished 2-3-4 in the race.
USC junior Dillon Connolly won the 200y breaststroke with a time of 1:59.92 and was also second in the 100y breast while senior James Martin won the 400y IM in 3:57.79.
In diving held last week with Cal and Stanford, sophomore diver Harrison Jones won the 1-meter diving competition with a final score of 392.25, and finished in first place in the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 428.17.
Cal's Nathan Adrian (19.47 in the 50y free) and Damir Dugonjic (54.20 in the 100y breast) both set USC pool records.
USC will race against Stanford on Saturday (Feb. 6) at 12 p.m.
