Former USC All-American golfers Jennifer Song and Belen Mozo were given sponsor's exemptions to the Safeway Classic, it was announced on Thursday (Aug. 5). The tournament runs Aug. 20-22 at the Ghost Creek course at Pumpkin Ridge G.C. in North Plains, Ore.
Song was a two-time All-American before turning pro after her sophomore year earlier this summer and she won her pro debut at the $125,000 Tate & Lyle Players Championship, a Duramed FUTURES Tour event. She is already ranked No. 13 on the Futures Tour money list with three events remaining on the schedule. The top 10 on the final money list earn LPGA Tour cards for next year.
Mozo, from Spain, is USC's first four-time All-American, graduating this past spring. In 2006, she won the British Ladies Open Amateur and Girls' British Open Amateur, becoming the first to win both events in the same year since Mickey Walker in 1972. Mozo was a semifinalist at the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur at Eugene C.C.
The Safeway Classic is Mozo's LPGA debut. Song already has LPGA experience, playing at the 2009 Hana Bank - KOLON Championship in Incheon, South Korea and was also the low amateur at the 2009 U.S. Women's Open.
