Junior Lisa McCloskey fired a 2-under 70 while junior Inah Park was also under par to lead the USC women's golf team on the first day of the 2010 Mason Rudolph Championship at the Legends G.C. in Nashville, Tenn.
USC is tied for eighth with Florida and Wake Forest at 2-under 286, eight strokes behind leader LSU (278) in a tightly bunched field. Purdue and California are tied for second (279) with Duke fourth (283), Georgia and UCLA tied for fifth (284) and Alabama seventh (285).
McCloskey's 70 was good enough for a tie for 17th place, five behind Wake Forest leader Michelle Shin (7-under 65). McCloskey had four birdies on the day, including two back-to-back to close out the round.
Park, in her first event of the season, got off to an exciting start in rollercoaster style, notching six birdies to offset three bogeys and a double bogey, tying for 25th at 1-under 71.
Sophomore Cyna Rodrigez is tied for 33rd at par (72), freshman Rachel Morris is tied for 42nd at 1-over 73 and senior Lizette Salas is tied for 68th at 4-over 76.
USC is paired with Florida and Alabama to start Saturday's round at 8 a.m. CST.
