Women of Troy Play First Fall Matches

BERKELEY, CALIF. - The USC women's tennis team sent a pair of Trojans to the Cal Nike Invitational to soak in the first matches of the fall season this weekend. Seniors Cristala Andrews and Lyndsay Kinstler made the journey to Berkeley and got in some early-season matches to tune up for the 2010-11 season.
Playing in the ITA Gold brackets, Andrews and Kinstler each got in the singles win column during the weekend. Andrews opened up with an impressive three-set comeback win, as she swept past Santa Clara's Kelly Lamble 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 32 before falling in the Round of 16 to Natallia Pintusava of Minnesota. Teaming up in doubles play, the Trojan duo was unable to snag a win, but they both saw singles success on Saturday. Kinstler swamped Gayane Sarkisian 6-1, 6-0, and Andrews made similar work of Arizona's Deborah Castany to wrap up the Trojans' first tournament of the fall.
Important fall action is coming fast for the Women of Troy, with the ITA Riviera All-American getting underway next weekend. Qualifying and beyond will run Oct. 2-10 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
