
No. 3 USC Sweeps Utah For 11th Straight Win

LOS ANGELES - Senior All-America middle blocker Lauren Williams (Houston, Texas) had a team-high 10 kills while hitting .500 with three blocks Friday as the No. 3 USC Women of Troy swept the Utah Utes, 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-14), in a Pac-12 Conference match at the Galen Center.
USC improved to 16-3 overall by winning its 11th consecutive match and maintained its first-place conference lead with an 11-1 mark. Utah is now 8-13 overall and 3-9 in conference.
Freshman middle blocker Hannah Schraer had nine kills against only one error for a .667 night (9-1-12) with senior All-America setter Kendall Bateman recording 43 assists, two kills and four digs.
Morgan Odale led the Utes with eight kills, three digs and two blocks while Danielle Killpack had five kills for a .500 night while leading both teams with seven blocks.
The Women of Troy opened the match with an 8-0 run to set the tempo. Schraer figured in four straight points as USC led, 15-5. Alex Jupiter finished the set with a kill to begin the sweep. One of Jupiter's four service aces on the night was part of four straight points as USC took the 17-8 lead in the second set. After Williams got a kill on the overpass to make it 23-12, the Utes would respond with a 9-1 run. Staring at set point, Utah reeled off seven straight points before Williams halted the rally.
After a Utah block made it a 6-4 score for USC in the third set, the Women of Troy pulled away with a 10-4 streak as Jupiter tallied four kills in the latter part of the set for the win.
USC hosts Colorado tomorrow in a 7 p.m. match that will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com.
Notes: Kendall Bateman moved into third place on USC's career list for assists, passing Toni Anderson (2000-03)...Bateman now has 3,853 career assists and behind Taylor Carico (2006-08) for second place...Janice Mounts (1995-98) holds the school record for career assists with 4,258...Alex Jupiter tied a career high with four service aces, a feat she has accomplished four times in her Trojan career.
