Senior Lizette Salas is tied for ninth and freshman Sophia Popov is tied for 19th after the first round to lead top-ranked USC on the first day of the "The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn" event on Sunday (March 20) at the Championship Golf Course at Ranch Bernardo Inn Golf Resort and Spa in San Diego, Calif.
USC finished the first round at 11-over 299 in fifth, six strokes back of leader UCLA (293). UC Davis is second (294) with Purdue third (295) and Arizona State fourth (297).
Salas posted three birdies and four bogeys and is four shots off the lead while Popov had one birdie against three bogeys.
Junior Lisa McCloskey is tied for 26th at 3-over 75, junior Inah Park is tied for 43rd at 5-over 77 and junior Cyna Rodriguez is tied for 56th at 6-over 78.
Action continues Monday and Tuesday.
