Senior Lizette Salas carded a 1-under 71 while freshman Sophia Popov was 1-over as USC moved to second place after the second round of the "The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn" event on Monday (March 21) at the Championship Golf Course at Ranch Bernardo Inn Golf Resort and Spa in San Diego, Calif.
USC, looking to win its third event in a row and post its seventh top 3 finish in as many events this year, improved four strokes over its first-round total and is now at 18-over 594 (299-295), seven back of first-place Purdue (587) and three ahead of third-place UCLA (597). UC Davis is fourth (601).
Salas is third overall at par 74 (73-71). She was 2-under through 15 before back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17. But she birdied 18 to get back under par.
Popov is tied for fifth at 3-over 147 (74-73) as she seeks her fifth straight top 10 finish. She had four birdies and bogeys on the round.
Junior Lisa McCloskey, after her seventh top 11 finish in as many outings, is tied for 20th at 7-over 151 (75-76) while sophomore Cyna Rodriguez is tied for 32nd at 9-over 153 (78-75). Junior Inah Park is 90th at 24-over 168 (77-91).
