USC senior Lizette Salas, about to begin her final college event at the 2011 NCAA Championships that begin Wednesday (May 18), became her family's first college graduate last Friday (May 13.) when she received her degree in sociology.
The day before, at the USC Athletic Department's graduation celebration at Galen Center on May 12, she was one of three featured speakers and addressed her fellow student-athlete graduates (as well as athletic administration officials, coaches, family and friends) with a moving and heart-felt speech.
Salas, already a three-time All-American who is virtually a lock to become USC's first-ever four-time All-American by week's end, spoke for less than six minutes, but provided one of the highlights of the event.
