LOS ANGELES - Alex Sherrod went 3-for-4 with three RBI Tuesday as the USC Trojans defeated the Pepperdine Waves, 7-2, in a non-conference game at Dedeaux Field.
The Trojans (24-29) used 14 hits as Ricky Oropesa and Adam Landecker also recorded three hits in the game. Senior right-hander Chris Mezger improved to 2-0 on the season with 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (both unearned) on six hits. Ben Mount entered the game in the ninth to pick up his fourth save on the year.
Pepperdine (21-32) plated two unearned runs in the second before USC took the lead for good with two in the third on Sherrod's RBI groundout. He added RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings with the Trojans holding the five-run lead until the ninth.
USC concludes the 2011 season with a Pac-10 Conference series against Washington State, Friday-Sunday. Game times for the WSU series will be 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday. All three games will be broadcast through a video webcast on usctrojans.com.
