The first day of school will come late for five USC women's water polo players who are engaged in international action this week at the FINA Junior World Championships. Three Trojans -- Colleen O'Donnell, Madeline Rosenthal and Dominique Sardo -- are teamed up together for Team USA, but they have some familiar faces on the opposite end of the pool with Jennifer Stiefel capped up as the team captain for Germany and Flora Bolonyai in the cage for Hungary.
All five Women of Troy are making an impact for their respective teams. Bolonyai and Hungary are bound for the quarterfinals after a strong outing in group play. She will square off against the Trojan trio playing for the United States next, as the U.S. squad just toppled Stiefel's Germany in their crossover match. In that clash, all four Women of Troy punched in goals. Sardo led the pack with four, while O'Donnell added a hat trick and Rosenthal scored one for the USA cause. Stiefel also got to the back of the net for Germany, which took a 25-2 loss to the Americans today in Trieste, Italy.
Saves tallies have been unavailable for Bolonyai, who has anchored her Hungary squad through two wins and a tie to reach the quarterfinals. On the scoring front so far, Sardo has tallied nine goals, O'Donnell has six, Rosenthal has five, and Stiefel has four through the first four games to date in Italy.
Keep track of the Trojans as they play on in Italy at the FINA site for the 2011 Junior Women's World Championships.
