Senior Lisa McCloskey and sophomore Sophia Popov are tied for seventh, leading a No. 3 USC team that battled to stay in the hunt at the Pac-12 Championships at the Palouse Ridge G.C. in Pullman, Wash., on Saturday (April 28)
With the weather improved from a cold and windy first day, the defending champion Trojans finished the round in fourth at 18-over 595 (306-289), six back of new leader California. The Bears used a 5-under round to claim the lead at 13-over 589. Colorado is second (592) with UCLA third (594).
McCloskey, seeking her seventh top 10 finish in nine outings this year, rebounded from a rough start in which she registered a quadruple bogey on 6 and a double on 8. She saved her round by carding birdies on four of the remaining 10 holes without another blemish to finish at 4-over 148 (74-74).
Popov shook off her first-round 79 to join McCloskey at 148 with a second-round 69. She was 1-under going out, 2-under coming in with five birdies on the day. Popov and McCloskey are three off the lead.
