HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Former USC All-American April Ross completed an undefeated 36-0 season and claimed all seven 2014 AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) titles with partner Kerri Walsh Jennings over the weekend as the duo won the Huntington Beach championship. The top-ranked pair finished off an incredible season by knocking off Heather Hughes and Whitney Pavlik, 22-20, 21-17, in their final match.
USC men's volleyball alum Tri Bourne was a runner-up for the Huntington Beach title with partner John Hyden. The two fell to Casey Patterson and Jake Gibb in three sets, 19-21, 26-24, 15-13.
Ross and Walsh Jennings started the year as winners of the St. Petersburg Open on June 1, and continued their winning ways at the Milwaukee Open on July 6. The two claimed the Salt Lake City Open title on Aug. 10, and the Manhattan Beach Open crown on Aug. 17, a week later. On Aug. 31, they won the Cincinnati Open championship before taking the Atlantic City Open a week later (Sept. 7). The tandem's season culminated in this weekend's victory at the Huntington Beach Open to lay claim to all seven AVP trophies.
