USC Downs Hawaii, Falls To North Carolina State

The USC women's swimming and diving team got wins from juniors Chelsea Chenault and Anika Apostalon and freshman Riley Scott, defeating Hawaii while falling to North Carolina State on Saturday (Oct. 17) after completing the second day of a two-day meet at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
The Trojans, now 2-1 overall, downed Hawaii, 253-79, but lost to North Carolina State, 190-144.
Apostalon, in her first home weekend of competition since transferring from San Diego State, won the 100y free in 49.55, posting an early-season NCAA ‘B' cut with the time.
Scott captured the 200y breast in 2:14.83 for another NCAA ‘B' cut, more than a second under the consideration standard. Junior Kelsey Kafka was third in the race (2:20.18).
Chenault won the 500y free in 4:50.49 with freshman Allie Wooden taking second (4:52.09).
Freshmen Destiny Nelson (2:00.31) and Hanni Leach (2:00.60) went 2-3 in the 200y back. NC State went 1-2 in the 100y fly with junior Hannah Weiss taking third (56.05). Nelson came back to lead USC in the 200y IM, finishing third (2:05.49).
Senior Natalie Kalibat was USC's top finisher on 3-meter, in fourth with 272.75.
USC, second in the 400y medley and 200y free relays, is next in action when it hosts Oregon State at 2 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 23).
