McQuin Baron Snags MPSF Player of the Week Honors
October 05, 2015 | Men's Water Polo
McQuin Baron had a career-high 18 saves in USC's overtime win over No. 2 Stanford over the weekend. For his outstanding efforts in the cage, Baron has been selected MPSF Player of the Week.
Baron collected five of his final 18 saves during overtime as the Trojans shut out the Cardinal in OT to win the game 12-8. The sophomore goalie's performance included several point-blank stops and a string of back-to-back saves to keep Stanford out of the net at key moments. The win avenged USC's one-goal loss to Stanford, taken two weeks earlier at the NorCal Tournament.
Baron's dominance in goal continued the next day as he collected eight more saves in just over two periods of work during USC's 17-3 win over San Jose State. The wins improved USC's overall record to 12-1 as the Trojans stayed perfect in MPSF action with the two wins, now at 3-0 in conference.
This is Baron's second career selection as MPSF Player of the Week, having won it in November 2014 as a freshman. He is the second Trojan to win the award this season, following Chase Koplow's selection last week (Sept. 28).
