LOS ANGELES - The USC women's lacrosse team (13-5) was awarded an at-large bid and will play in the 2015 NCAA DI Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The Women of Troy completed the regular season in second place in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) and were the runner-up to Stanford in the championship game.
In their first-ever foray into the NCAA tourney, the Trojans will face Colonial Athletic Association champion James Madison (15-4) in a first-round game on Friday, May 8, at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT) at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Dukes are ranked No. 17 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll. The winner of the first-round game will advance to meet site host No. 4-ranked and third-seeded Duke (14-4) in the second round on Sunday, May 10, at 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. PT).
USC has never faced either JMU or Duke in its three seasons since becoming a varsity sport at the university. The Trojans received their historic first bid following a record-setting season in which the team won a program-best 13 games, eight MPSF contests, set a new record winning streak with seven straight games, and finished in second in the final conference standings.
Head coach Lindsey Munday was named the MPSF Coach of the Year and sophomore attacker Michaela Michael was selected as the conference's Player of the Year. The Trojans put seven players on the MPSF All-Conference team including the 2013 Rookie of the Year Amanda Johansen.
