Trojan Teams Fall In ITA All-American Doubles Quarterfinals

TULSA, OKLA. - After two huge wins in the Round of 16 yesterday, USC's two doubles teams in main draw action at the ITA All-American wound up with tough, tight losses in today's quarterfinals. Both teams put up a fight in going into a 10-game pro set to decide their respective matches, but ultimately fell to wrap their doubles runs in Tulsa. Freshman Brandon Holt did find success in the consolation bracket today, however, tacking up two wins to take a spot in tomorrow's semifinals.
In doubles play, USC's #10-ranked pair of Nick Crystal and Laurens Verboven were up against the #2 team in the land in Cal's Bergevi/Lakat. The Bears were able to fend off the Trojans in a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) comeback to steal a spot in the semifinals. So, too, did USC's freshman pairing of Brandon Holt and Riley Smith find themselves on the losing end of a similar contest, falling 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) to Purdue's Madarasz/Medinilla. That wraps the two Trojan pairs' time in Tulsa, although Holt booked himself an extended stay with his victorious day in the singles consolation bracket. There, the USC freshman topped Richmond's Jacob Dunbar 6-3, 6-0 and then took down Jack Findel-Hawkins 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in the quarters to move into tomorrow's consolation semifinals against Nuno Borges of Mississippi State.
