No. 1 Trojans Wipe Out Warhawks in 5-0 Sweep

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The top-ranked USC beach volleyball team (22-2) posted a 5-0 sweep of Louisiana-Monroe (10-15) at the Cowtown Classic on the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts on Saturday, April 16. The Women of Troy won their 18th consecutive dual and logged their 12th 5-0 sweep of an opponent this season.
The Trojans earned their first point from court five as sophomore Terese Cannon and freshman Katrina Kernochan teamed for a 21-14, 21-8 win over Catherine Griffith and Bayleigh Hoffman. It took three sets, but sophomore Jenna Belton and freshman Abril Bustamante defeated Claire Crossfield and Tara Jenkins, 21-9, 18-21, 15-8, to put USC on top, 2-0, in the dual.
At the top court, juniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes earned their 30th win of the season on a dominating 21-8, 21-6 win over Hope Pawlik and Taylor Zaeske. It was the 55th straight victory for the talented All-American tandem. USC tacked on a fourth point as junior Sophie Bukovec and senior Alexa Strange completed their 21-10, 21-11 win against Kori Simpson and Hadley Swartz at the No. 2 position.
The sweep went into the books with USC's win at court three as juniors Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler took out Delaney Driver and Kaitlyn Shearer, 21-8, 21-13. In an exhibition match, sophomore Jo Kremer and senior Zoe Nightingale put together a 21-7, 21-9 win over Rebecca Brown and Jennifer McLendon.
Next up, USC concludes the weekend against tournament host TCU (15-5) at 2 p.m. CT (noon PT).
