Rob Bellamy Wins Battle in the Bay Singles Title

The USC men's tennis team divided and conquered this weekend, splitting up for action in Louisiana and Northern California as the fall stretch of individual action continues for the Trojans. Four Trojans engaged in action in San Francisco at the Battle in the Bay, while four more took the trip to Louisiana for the John Breaux Tennis Classic. It was tough competition in both spots, but the most successful Trojan of the all emerged from San Francisco, where senior Rob Bellamy claimed the singles title with a stretch of four wins, including a gutsy three-setter in the title match.
Also in San Francisco, USC's freshman doubles duo of Brandon Holt and Riley Smith combined forces for a run to the doubles final, where the pair was upended by the draw's top seeds. Holt had also made a deep run in the singles draw, snagging four wins to move into the semifinals, where he was edged out in three sets.
Meanwhile, in Louisiana, four Trojans had set up for a four-day event in Lafayette. Sophomore Jack Jaede and junior Thibault Forget each forged paths to the singles quarterfinals, but were each dealt losses to miss out on spots in the semis. In doubles, however, the pair was able to power up for a run to the doubles semifinal, where the Trojan duo wound up with a tense three-set loss to the draw's top seeds.
The Trojans will next focus their energies on tough competition on tap at the ITA All-American Championships, beginning with pre qualifying rounds on Oct. 1 and running through to the main draw finals on Oct. 10 in Tulsa, Okla.
