Women of Troy Open Play at Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

Pacific Palisades, Calif.--Over the weekend, four Women of Troy competed in the Pre-Qualifying Round of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
USC's Madison Westby and Rianna Valdes each competed in the Pre-Qualifying singles draw. Valdes defeated Arkansas' Mia Jurasic 7-6 (0), 6-2 in the first round, but fell to Duke's Kelly Chen 6-0, 6-1 in the second round.
After a tight battle, Westby was defeated by Iowa's No. 92 Zoe Douglas 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 in the first round. Westby went on to win her consolation match against Loyola Marymount's Elvira Juravliova 6-1, 6-2 to close out the singles portion of the day.
In the doubles competition, the duo of Weissmann/Van Alphen took down DePaul's Clousing/Lancranjan 8-5 in the first round. In the second round, Weissmann/Van Alphen fell to the local pair of Gulbe/Milovanovic from Pepperdine 8-5.
Draws for the Qualifying Round will be released tomorrow (Oct. 2) where Trojan tandem Smith/Valdes will be playing in the doubles competition.
