Abercrombie and Lanier Receive AVCA All-Pacific South Region Honors

The two Women of Troy were also Pac-12 All-Conference selections
LEXINGTON, Ky. – USC women's volleyball senior opposite hitter Brittany Abercrombie (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon HS) and sophomore outside hitter Khalia Lanier (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) were each named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region Team on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The two Women of Troy were among 14 players chosen in the AVCA's Pacific South region and were both also Pac-12 All-Conference selections. By virtue of their selection for regional honors, Abercrombie and Lanier are now each also eligible to be chosen for AVCA All-America laurels. San Diego head coach Jennifer Petrie was named the region's Coach of the Year; Utah outside hitter Adora Anae was chosen as the Pacific South Player of the Year; and Colorado setter Brynna Deluzio was named Freshman of the Year.

Abercrombie, now a two-time All-Pac-12 selection, was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week twice this fall (Sept. 25 and Oct. 2). She was also chosen as the espnW National Player of the Week on Oct. 3. Abercrombie set new single-match career marks for kills (19), attacks (56), blocks (9), and points (20.0) this season. She became just the 16th USC player to reach 1,000 career kills mark and has 1,012 entering the NCAA regional championship rounds.

Lanier, also a two-time All-Pac-12 choice, was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors three times this season (Aug. 28, Nov. 13, and Nov. 27). She was also named the AVCA National Player of the Week on Nov. 14. Lanier, a member of the Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference Team, was also a member of each of USC's pre-conference all-tournament teams and earned MVP honors at the USC/LMU Tournament to open the season. Lanier ranks in the Pac-12's top 10 for kills (4.19 kps) and points (4.76 pps).

14th-ranked USC (24-9) received the 10th seed into the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship and defeated Central Arkansas (3-1) in the first round and ninth-ranked San Diego (3-2) in the second round at Galen Center. The victories propelled the Trojans into their sixth NCAA regional semifinal appearance in the last eight years. The Women of Troy head to Gainesville, Fla., this week, to face seventh-seeded Minnesota (28-5) on Friday (Dec. 8) in a 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT) match at Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. On the other side of the bracket, 15th-seeded UCLA (21-10) takes on No. 2-seed site host Florida (27-1). The winners of each semifinal will meet in the regional championship match set for 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 9.
