Two Trojans Selected To USA U-23 Team Trials

Senior Kristen Simon and newcomer Mariya Moore are in Colorado Springs to vie for spots at the Four Nations Tournament.
USC's all-conference post player, Kristen Simon, and newly added transfer, Mariya Moore, were selected to compete at the upcoming USA Basketball U23 National Team Training Camp. One of 40 elite players head to the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., Simon and Moore are in line for a spot on the USA roster for the U23 Four Nations Tournament. The team trials run July 31-Aug. 4, and the 12-player final roster will be chosen at the close of the camp.
This is the first USA call-up for Simon — a 6-2 senior forward who was the Trojans' top scorer and rebounder last season. A full-time starter as a sophomore and junior, Simon was picked to the All-Pac-12 Team last season as she paced the Women of Troy with her 14.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. She'll enter her final season at Troy just 91 points away from hitting the 1,000-point mark in her USC career. If selected to the USA U23 roster, the Gardena, Calif., native would add a new country to her world view. USC's team trip to Italy last summer marked Simon's first international overseas travel. Moore, meanwhile, has previous USA experience, having won gold medals at the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship and the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship. The experience guard arrives at USC after three seasons at Louisville, where she was an All-American and All-ACC selection.
The USA U23 team will be shoving off for Tokyo, Japan, for competition at the 2017 U23 Four Nations Tournament running Aug. 12-15.
