Louisville All-American will join her younger sister, Minyon, on the USC roster.
Standout guard Mariya Moore, who scored over 1,000 points and was on the Naismith Trophy Watch list during her three seasons at Louisville, has officially signed on to join the USC women's basketball program, head coach Mark Trakh has announced. Moore will sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules, and is set to see her first minutes as a Trojan in 2018.Â
An impact player who registered five double-doubles and 19 games with 20 or more points scored, Moore is a total backcourt threat and a welcome addition to USC's arsenal of talent. Her younger sister, Minyon Moore, has already made her mark with the Women of Troy, coming off a stellar freshman season in 2016-17 and now set to be reunited with her older sister at Troy.
"We are excited to have a player like Mariya join our Trojan family," Trakh said of his newest addition to the USC roster. "Mariya is very talented and brings a diverse skill set to our team. She has excelled at the highest level of college basketball, and we are looking forward to seeing her on the court in two years. Mariya is an excellent shooter and a great passer, and more importantly a team player! We are all looking forward to working with Mariya!"
A full-time starter and All-ACC Second Team honoree for Louisville last season as a junior, the 6-0 guard provided five or more assists in 18 games and landed 72 3-pointers. She averaged 12.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists to help pace the Cardinals to the Sweet Sixteen. During the NCAA Tournament, she provided 11.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, including a 50-percent effort from the floor. As a sophomore, Moore earned WBCA All-America honorable mention after starting 32 of 34 games and providing 14.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game for the Cardinal. A two-time ACC Player of the Week pick that season, Moore also landed on the All-ACC First Team, upgrading her freshman season's All-ACC Second Team selection. In three seasons at Louisville, she climbed to No. 13 all-time in career points (1,365), No. 9 in career assists (444), No. 5 in 3-pointers made (211), No. 7 in free throws made (328) and registered just the seventh triple-double in school history with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists vs. Syracuse.Â
A native of Hercules, Calif., Moore attended Salesian High School, where she played her senior season alongside younger sister Minyon and was selected a 2014 McDonald's All-American. She is currently competing at the USA Basketball Women's U-23 Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo., alongside her new Trojan teammate Kristen Simon. Moore also was a member of the USA Women's U-18 Team.
