Hertford and Huff Named to ILWomen Power 100
September 21, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse, Features
The Women of Troy add some highly-touted recruits to their 2018 roster highlighted by a pair of Power 100 selections
LOS ANGELES – USC women's lacrosse freshman goalie Riley Hertford (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and freshman midfielder Kelsey Huff (Eastport-South Manor, N.Y.) were each named to the InsideLacrosse.com ILWomen Power 100 Freshman Rankings on Tuesday, Sept. 12. Hertford was the 12th-ranked incoming freshman and Huff ranked 13th to help form the Trojans' seventh-ranked class.
Â
Last year, Kerrigan Miller was touted as the top-ranked recruit. Hertford and Huff were each also named Under Armour High School All-Americans and are now part of the first-ever ILWomen Power 100. The Trojans are two of just three players among the top 15 freshmen in the nation to head to schools in the west (Stanford, Ali Baiocco, No. 11).
Â
Only the top 50 of the Power 100 are ranked in order. The next 50 are part of a designated Watch List. Incoming USC freshman midfielder Courtney Hutchinson (Milton, Ga.) is among the 50 on the list. Both USC and Stanford have three players each in the Power 100 and are the only two Pac-12 schools listed. Notre Dame midfielder Andie Aldave (McDonogh, Md.) sits atop the Power 100.
Â
USC was ranked No. 8 in the final 2017 IWLCA Coaches Poll following an 18-4 season that saw the Women of Troy advance to the program's second-consecutive NCAA quarterfinal game. The Trojans went 8-0 in the MPSF's final season and won back-to-back regular-season and tournament titles.
Â
The Trojans earned their third straight bid into the NCAA tournament and were led by first-team All-American and two-time MPSF Player of the Year Michaela Michael who finished as the program's all-time leader for goals (234), points (305), and draw controls (422). Lydia Sutton was named a third-team IWLCA All-American. Kerrigan Miller was chosen as the MPSF's Rookie of the Year. Head coach Lindsey Munday earned her 69th-career victory and guided the program to its highest ranking (No. 3) and second-longest winning streak in school history (12).
