Another depth charge of talent is signed on to come to Troy next season.
The USC men's water polo program welcomes five new Trojans for 2019 with the signings of national letters of intent by Chris Agliozzo, Marcus Longton, Chris Sturtevant, Stefan Vavic and Hudson Carter, USC head coach Jovan Vavic has announced.Â
Chris Agliozzo and Stefan Vavic have been teammates at nearby Loyola High School, and are now set to cap up in Cardinal and Gold together as Trojans. Agliozzo swam and played water polo at Loyola, earning all-league honors in his junior season. He attended Mira Costa High School as a freshman and sophomore, earning all-league honors there as well.
"Chris is a tough kid," Vavic said of Agliozzo. "He's been playing water polo for a long time. He can post up and is a very good outside shooter. He's somebody who lives water polo and loves the game."
Stefan Vavic is the youngest child of head coach Jovan Vavic, following in the footsteps of brothers Nikola and Marko and sister Monica. Marko is currently a sophomore on the USC roster. Stefan has twice been an All-CIF Third Team selection at Loyola, where he and Agliozzo captained their team to the Santa Barbara Invitational championship this year.
"Stefan is an intelligent player," Vavic said of his youngest son. "He's very crafty and always knows where the ball is. He's really good at stealing the ball and is an intelligent defender."
A lefty, Marcus Longton comes to USC from Campolindo High School in Moraga, Calif., where he has been a captain in his senior season. Longton helped his Campo teams win North Coast Section and league titles, along with two NCS runner-up finishes and a trip to the CIF NorCal semifinals.
"Marcus is a very good shooter," Vavic said of Longton. "He's a great young man. He has a lot of power in his shot, is very aggressive and has good speed. He can really help us out right away."
A San Diego product, Chris Sturtevant graduates from Cathedral Catholic High School, where his team was league champion in 2018 anywhere he has been an all-county and all-league first team honoree. Sturtevant also has competed as a member of the British U21 and U19 National Teams. He was MVP and top scorer for Great Britain at the 2017 EU Nations Tournament.
"Chris is an excellent outside shooter and driver," Vavic said of Sturtevant. "He understands the game and is a guy who will really add to our depth."
Hudson Carter is the newest addition to the signee list, set to come to Troy from Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach. A longtime member of Trojan Club, Carter brings scoring savvy and versatility as a 6-6 utility.
"Hudson is very long and lanky," Vavic said of Carter. "He has great length and is a very good outside shooter. He's a scorer with the ability to defend 2-meters and drive."
