LOS ANGELES – The United Soccer Coaches announced its All-American teams today and, for the first time in school history, four USC players were honored.
Ally Prisock highlighted the honors by becoming the first Trojan since 2009 and third ever to be named to the first team. Goalkeeper Kaylie Collins was named to the second team and Savannah DeMelo and Leah Pruitt were named to the third team. USC has had two players honored as All-Americans by the coaches association twice in its history, but never more than that until this year.
Prisock has already earned All Pac-12 and All-Pacific Region first team recognition, and is a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy after starting every game at center-back for the Trojans this year. She lead a Trojan backline that notched 15 shutouts this year, the second most in program history, and helped USC give up just 11 goals all season en route to the best goal differential (57-11) in program history. The senior also scored a goal and had an assist on the season. She wrapped up an all-time great USC career this year, setting the program mark for career starts at 90 after starting every game of her four-year tenure. Prisock also earned Top Drawer Soccer Best XI third team honors last year.
Kristin Olsen in 2009 is the only other Trojan to earn first team honors from the coaches association. Isabelle Harvey earned first team honors from the outlet Soccer Buzz in 2000. Prisock is the first USC defender to be named a First-Team All-American.
Collins wrapped up a remarkable redshirt sophomore season with 10 solo-shutouts, tied for the fourth most in program history and the 11th most in the country this year. Collins was named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year after leading the league in shutouts and posting the ninth best goals against average (0.506) in the NCAA. She now has 17 shutouts for her career, putting her fourth on the career list. In addition to her Pac-12 Goalkeeper and All-Conference first team honors, Collins was recently named to the All-Pacific Region first team. It is the first All-American honor of her career.
DeMelo caps a decorated first two years of her career at USC, with the sophomore earning All Pac-12 first team honors each of the last two years, All-Pacific Region first team earlier this week and now her first All-American award. She was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list earlier this year and was a Top Drawer Soccer All-Freshman first team honoree last season. DeMelo finished with a team-high 10 assists, which were good for 13th in the country. She scored nine goals as well, posting a total of 28 points, which was good for eighth in the conference.
Pruitt also was named to the All-Pacific Region and All Pac-12 first teams this year on her way to her first ever All-American award. The senior forward was second on the team in points, with 33 after scoring 12 goals and posting nine assists. Her 12 goals were tied for fourth in the Pac-12 and nine assists were good for sixth. She also led the league and was ninth in the nation with six game-winning goals this year. She wraps up an all-time great USC career tied for fifth on the all-time USC assists list with 21, tied for 10th with 22 goals scored and sixth on the game-winning goals list with 10. Pruitt was named to the All Pac-12 second team last year and prior to transferring to USC was the Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2015.
