Miljenic, Koenigsperger, Valente and Bell also reach A finals.
Senior Patrick Mulcare, junior Louise Hansson and sophomore Maggie Aroesty were all victorious to lead the Trojans on the final night of the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational on Saturday (Dec. 1) in Austin.
Senior Patrick Mulcare, a three-time All-American in the 200y back, won his specialty, taking the event in 1:38.91 to secure an NCAA A cut. It's the fifth time he's been under 1:39 in his career.
The Trojan women claimed the top four spots in the 200y breast A final thanks to a dominant prelim performance. In the final, Aroesty won in 2:08.93, leading a 1-2-3 finish as she edged senior Riley Scott (2:09.01) by 0.08, taking the lead on the final 50. Freshman Isa Odgers was third (2:11.71). Junior Kirsten Vose scratched her final appearance after a 2:11.74 in prelims.
Hansson, who equaled her USC record and NCAA winning time in the 100y fly (49.80) last night, came back to win the 200y fly in 1:51.52 while senior Maddie Wright, a two-time All-American in the event, was second in 1:52.48, both posting NCAA A cuts.
Sophomore Caitlin Tycz was fourth in the race (1:55.35), junior Catherine Sanchez was fifth (1:55.57) and freshman Makenna Turner won the B final for ninth (1:57.38) with a PR.
Sophomore Marta Ciesla, in her second final this week, finished second in the 100y free (47.89),
0.57 lower than her morning PR. Junior Tatum Wade also lowered her PR to 48.65 for seventh while Vose won the B final in 48.90. Senior Victoria Toris was 18th (50.01).
Nikola Miljenic, just 0.02 off his PR with a 43.30 in prelims, shattered it in the final with a 42.91 to take fourth in the A final. Freshman Alexei Sancov (43.68) and senior Kyle Grissom (44.40) posted season best B cuts.
Junior Mario Koenigsperger finished seventh in the men's 200breast A final with a 1:56.36. Carsten Vissering, who won the 100y breast Friday by lowering his school record, claimed the B final in 1:56.22 with Billy Monjay 14th overall (1:59.65).
Seniors Alex Valente (1:44.48) and Walker Bell (1:47.93) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 200y fly with junior Mark Jurek taking 11th (1:45.29).
Senior Elizabeth Stinson led USC's women in the 1650y free, finishing sixth in 16:21.52 while fellow senior Allie Wooden was ninth (16:40.29) and sophomore Isabella Rongione was 13th (16:56.46). Freshman Owen Kao led USC's men in 13th (15:34.64). Junior Abby Miller soon followed to lead the USC women in the 200y back in 18th (2:01.85).
USC closed the meet with two strong 400y free relays. The Trojan women's quartet of Hansson, Wade, Vose and Ciesla took second with an NCAA A cut of 3:11.96. The men were fourth as Sancov, Mulcare, Grissom and Miljenic finished in 2:53.30.
Said USC Head Coach Dave Salo:
"It was an outstanding conclusion to the fall. It was a great team effort and the Trojan spirit was incredible with each and every event. Our women have emerged as a strong contender for a top five team at the NCAAs and the men will have to rely on less depth but strong top five individuals.
"We will have to get back to work to see if we can't get better for the Pac-12 Championships and then onto NCAA in March. Trojan pride was evident with all the Trojan fans we had in attendance.
"Louise Hansson is clearly one of the best this season on the women's side and Patrick Mulcare and Carsten Vissering are leading the men with some great individual and relay performances. I'm proud of this team and excited for the spring."
