Trojans finish fourth overall.
Freshman Maggie Aroesty overtook teammate and defending 200y breast champ Riley Scott at the wall to win her first title while sophomore Louise Hansson just missed a remarkable USC record in the 200y fly, taking second, to highlight USC's final night at the Pac-12 Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday (Feb. 24) in Federal Way, Wash.
The Trojans finished fourth with 948.5 points. Stanford won the team title with 1776.5 and was followed by California (1487), ASU (996), USC, Arizona (932.5), UCLA (847.5), Utah (441), Washington State (307) and Oregon State (199).
"We had a good, strong meet out of all of our swimmers and divers this weekend," USC Coach Dave Salo said. "Everyone put in the energy for our successes. It was definitely a team effort we are very proud of."
Aroesty won her first Pac-12 crown in a PR 2:06.85, passing Scott as well as Stanford's Brooke Forde and ASU's Silja Kansakoski over the final 25 yards. Scott, who won the 100y breast Friday night, hit the wall second in 2:07.29 for her sixth top two finish in her Pac-12 Championships career.
The title is USC's third in the last four years in the event and the eighth overall for the Trojans.
Hansson, who repeated as a 100y fly champion last night with a school-record swim, just missed another win and school record in an amazing 200y fly, taking second in 1:51.13. The time was 0.11 off of Katinka Hosszu's 2011 school mark.
One of the most versatile sprinters in the country, Hansson took the demanding 200y fly in fast fashion, going out in 51.81. She still led with 25 yards to go when she was overtaken by Stanford's Ella Eastin, who won the event for the third year in a row (1:49.51).
Junior Maddie Wright also swam in the 200y fly final and, in her third straight A final appearance in the race, finished fourth in 1:53.38.
Sophomore Naomi Gowlett (260.80) and junior Madi Witt (258.30) finished third and fifth, respectively, in the platform. It was Witt's third straight final in the event and third top 5 finish and Gowlett's first final in the event.
Sophomore Tatum Wade, a three-time Pac-12 finalist last year, made her first A final in the 100y free Saturday and finished eighth in 48.92, 0.03 off her PR from prelims. Senior Lexie Malazdrewicz was 15th (49.55).
The Trojan quartet of Hansson, freshman Marta Ciesla, Wade and Malazdrewicz closed the meet for USC with a third in the 400y free relay in a season-best NCAA A time 3:13.36. Hansson opened it with a season best 47.41.
Senior Hannah Weiss continued her strong swimming this week, winning the 200y back B final in a PR 1:52.99, faster than her A final swims in 2015 and 2016. The time would have finished seventh in the A final tonight.
Sophomore Catherine Sanchez took 10th in the 200y fly with a PR 1:55.33 while freshman Caitlin Tycz was 12th in 1:55.98.
Sophomore Becca Mann led USC in the 1650y free timed final with a fourth-place finish in 16:06.96, a season-best NCAA B cut. Junior Elizabeth Stinson was fifth (16:09.64) while junior Allie Wooden was 12th (16:24.88), also both season bests.
Trojan divers will next compete at the NCAA Zone E Championships March 5-7 and USC will compete at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, March 14-17.
