USC Breaks Out With 9-3 Win at UCSB

USC posted runs in six different innings on the day to move to 14-11 on the year. UC Santa Barbara falls to 11-13-1 on the season. Every player in the starting lineup for USC got a hit on the day.
The Trojans found themselves in a 2-0 hole after the first inning, but scored in four of the next five innings to take a commanding 7-2 lead. Blake Sabol singled in the first run of the game in the second for USC, then the Trojans tied the game and took the lead on a pair of sacrifice flies from Dillon Paulson and Matthew Acosta.
Sabol went back to work in the fifth, with a two-run single to make it 5-2 and give him three RBI on the day. Paulson followed with an RBI double in the sixth and Acosta hit a solo-shot to lead off the seventh.
John Beller finished his day tossing 6.0 innings, giving up five hits and two runs, while striking out four and walking two in his first collegiate start. Isaac Esqueda tossed the final 3.0 innings to record his first career save.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Beller threw 6.0 innings, scattering five hits and issuing two walks to give up two runs and strike out four. He moves to 2-0 and lowers his season ERA to 3.00.
- Sabol was 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI.
- Acosta went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a career-high four runs scored.
- Lars Nootbaar, Jamal O'Guinn and Chase Bushor each had two-hit days. Bushor also scored a run.
USC heads to Arizona State for a three-game Pac-12 series starting on Friday.
