SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse sophomore Kerrigan Miller (Bayport, N.Y.) was named the first-ever Pac-12 Midfielder of the Year and was one of five Trojans selected to the inaugural Pac-12 All-Conference Team as announced by the conference on Friday, May 4.
Miller leads the Pac-12 in caused turnovers (40), caused turnovers per game (2.22 ctpg), and is tired for first with four game-winning goals. She leads USC with 49 points, is second on the team with 48 draw controls and is third with 38 ground balls.
Senior defender Lydia Sutton (Minnetonka, Minn.), junior defender Jackie Gilbert (Pleasanton, Calif.), and sophomore midfielder Kaeli Huff (Eastport, N.Y.) joined Miller as members of the first team. Senior goalie Gussie Johns (Washington, D.C.) was chosen to the All-Pac-12 second team.
Stanford's Kelsey Murray was named the Player of the Year and the Cardinal's Ali Baiocco received Freshman of the Year honors. Colorado's Sarah Brown was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year and the Buffaloes' head coach Ann Elliott was named the first-ever Pac-12 Coach of the Year.
The Pac-12 is in its first season as a lacrosse conference. USC previously competed in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). While members of the MPSF, Johns was named to the all-conference team three times including two first-team mentions in 2016 and 2017. Sutton also earns her third all-conference nod with two previous selections to the All-MPSF team.
Miller was the MPSF's Rookie of the Year in 2017 and was also a first-team all-conference selection. Both Gilbert and Huff receive their first-career all-conference honors. Johns (Feb. 12 and 26), Sutton (March 19), and Miller (March 19) each earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors this season. The trio was also on the initial Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
USC finished the year with a 10-8 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the inaugural Pac-12 tournament where it fell to champion Stanford in a narrow 15-14 defeat. The Trojans now await the decision of the NCAA selection committee. USC has made three consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament and advanced to the quarterfinal round in each of the last two years. The selection show will stream live at NCAA.com on Sunday, May 6, at 6 p.m. PT (9 p.m. ET).
