SPARKS, Md. – Incoming USC lacrosse attacker Erin Bakes (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades HS) was one of 36 players selected to the training team for the 2019 U.S. Women's U19 National Team head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller announced on Sunday, Aug. 12. Bakes was one of 110 athletes to have participated in a three-day tryout that concluded Sunday at the U.S. Lacrosse headquarters.
"Obviously it's bittersweet because there's so much talent at this tryout," said Amonte Hiller, head coach at Northwestern, a National Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee and three-time U.S. World Cup team member. "It's hard to let some of those kids go because there was such a depth of the talent pool — to have 500 kids apply and to just see how strong the drills and scrimmages and everything we did this weekend was."
"I'm really excited for the group that got selected," said Amonte Hiller. "They really were dynamic. They were coachable. We were looking for players that could really work together and I think they distinguished themselves with those characteristics. We're really pleased to be able to invite them to be a part of this special experience."
The U19 training roster includes 12 attackers, 13 midfielders, eight defenders, and three goalies. The squad features players from 11 different states, and spans four graduating classes.
The first training weekend for the team will be Oct. 5-8 at the Team USA Fall Classic in conjunction with the U.S. Men's and Women's Senior Teams at US Lacrosse. The 2019 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's U19 World Championship will be held Aug. 1-10, in Peterborough, Canada.
The United States has won four of the six previous FIL Women's U19 championships held (1999, 2003, 2007, 2011) while Australia (1995) and Canada (2015) have each won once.

Sixth-year head coach Lindsey Munday improved to 79-38 (.675) through the 2018 season and midfielder Kerrigan Miller capped her sophomore season as the Pac-12's Midfielder of the Year and received IWLCA All-America third-team honors.
