SPARKS, Md. – USC lacrosse All-American midfielders Amanda Johansen (Glen Head, N.Y.) and Kerrigan Miller (Bayport, N.Y.) were both named to the U.S. Lacrosse roster for the 2019 Fall Classic head coach Jenny Levy announced on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Johansen is currently an assistant coach with Hofstra and helped the WPLL Brave win the league championship over the summer. Miller was a member of the 2015 U.S. Lacrosse U19 Team that won silver at the 2015 FIL Women's World Cup and was named to the 2019 national training team in the spring. Johansen and Miller are each part of a 27-player squad that will represent the United States women's national team in the 2019 Fall Classic.
The U.S. women's team, the reigning world champions, will face 2017 silver medalist Canada in the opening day of the three-day event at US Lacrosse on Friday, Oct. 18. On Saturday, Oct. 19, the U.S. takes on reigning NCAA champion Maryland; and on Sunday, Oct. 20, the U.S. and Canada will play an exhibition using the trial rules developed by World Lacrosse.
"For us to play at home against Canada, to hopefully get a big crowd out on that Friday night especially, will be great," Levy said. "The U.S.-Canada competition, the rivalry is second to none."
Advance tickets for the Fall Classic, which also features the U.S. men's national team, Canada's men's national team and the University of Virginia men's team are $18 daily or $30 for a weekend pass that provides access to all six games.
Since taking over the U.S. women's team program in November 2017, Levy has had five previous training opportunities with the team, bringing in 57 players to the various events. The roster for Fall Classic includes 10 players that have won at least one world championship with the U.S. team and four Tewaaraton Award winners: Sam Apuzzo (2018), Taylor Cummings (2014-15-16), Katie Haus (2012-13) and Megan Taylor (2019).
The U.S. women have won three straight World Lacrosse championships — 2009, 2013, and 2017 — and eight of the 10 world championships since the event began in 1982. The U.S. also won the first lacrosse competition at the 2017 World Games in Poland.
The United States will host both events in 2021 with US Lacrosse hosting the World Lacrosse Women's World Championship at Towson University, followed by The World Games, a multi-sport event similar in nature to the Olympics, in Birmingham, Ala.
"Growing the game is not just U.S.-focused. It's got to be everyone together," Levy said. "How do we position the 2021 World Games as a springboard for what we're trying to do in 2028 with the Olympics?"
The U.S. women's national team trains and plays using best-in-class products provided by Nike (apparel and footwear), Brine (equipment), STX (equipment), SISU Guard (mouthguards), Pearl Lacrosse (balls) and DJO (sports braces).
In addition to these partners, Greenfields, Hudl, MedStar Sports Medicine and Sports Performance Tracking are official sponsors of the U.S. national team program. Team training is also aided by products from Motive Pure, NormaTec Recovery and Athletic Republic.

USC won the 2019 Pac-12 regular-season crown with a 9-1 league mark and then claimed wins over California and Colorado to win the Pac-12 tournament. It was the Trojans' third league crown following MPSF championships in 2016 and '17. Head coach Lindsey Munday, a two-time World Champions, was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year and Miller was awarded the Pac-12 Midfielder of the Year honor for the second season in a row. The Trojans received the program's fourth NCAA bid and faced Denver in the first round, but fell in a narrow 11-10 overtime decision to the Pioneers.
