ITA All-American Main Draw Features Trojans Bradley Frye And Riley Smith

TULSA, OKLA. — USC men's tennis will have representation in the main draw for singles and doubles at this year's prestigious St. Francis Health Systems ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. After several days of pre-qualifying and qualifying rounds, USC sophomore Bradley Frye and senior Riley Smith are through to the main draw in singles. They'll also team up in the doubles draw after a strong run together in qualifying as well.

Pre-qualifying rounds saw two USC newcomers make strong statements, as freshmen Stefan Dostanic and Ryder Jackson both snagged wins in their first two matches. Dostanic would fall in the third round, but Jackson prevailed, claiming two more wins to punch a ticket to the qualifying rounds. There, he'd take a loss to a seeded foe in the first round, but three more Trojans got off to winning starts at the event with a victorious first round of qualifying. Senior Riley Smith won the three matches he needed to lock into a place in the main draw, while sophomores Frye and Jake Sands each got two wins before third-round losses. Frye's #58 national ranking would help carry him through as a Lucky Loser to stake a claim on the main draw along with Smith.

Frye will square off with 9-16 seeded Matej Vocel of Oklahoma State to kick off main-draw singles action tomorrow (Oct. 9). Smith, meanwhile, will face Ohio State's Cannon Kingsley tomorrow.

That Trojan duo will pull double duty as well after going 2-1 in doubles qualifying and securing a Lucky Loser spot after a tense third-round loss. A second-round comeback win lifted the pair into the third round, where they fell in a tight tiebreaker. Ranked #28 in the nation, Frye and Smith will open the main draw against Brumm/Kikuchi of Cal tomorrow (Oct. 9).
