Trojans will carry an 8-3 record into Pac-12 play after the holiday break.
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — The USC women's basketball team rang up its fifth straight win to round out the nonconference portion of the 2019-20 season, registering a 57-40 victory over Long Beach State in the capper to the 2019 Women of Troy Classic today at the Galen Center. Senior Kayla Overbeck made it back-to-back double-digit games with her team-high 15 points today, while freshman Alissa Pili tallied her fourth double-double. The win improves USC to 8-3 overall, while Long Beach State goes to 5-8 on the year.
USC had Long Beach State doubled up on the offensive end in the first half, with the Trojans firing at a 37.5 percent clip from the floor to a chilly 14.3 percent by the Beach. A 12-0 USC surge that spanned the first and second frames build out a hefty lead for the Trojans, who led it 29-12 at halftime thanks in part to 10 points from senior Kayla Overbeck. USC heated up in the second half to finish out the game at 43.4 perfect from the floor, although Long Beach State was able to keep in scoring stride with the Trojans in the final 20 minutes. The Beach wrapped at 23.8 percent from the floor as USC held its ground for the win. USC also won out on the boards to the tune of a 49-31 advantage.

USC capped off the first quarter on an 8-0 run with buckets from four different Trojans while Long Beach State failed to score from the floor since opening the game with a 3-pointer on its first possession. Just one free throw would fall for the Beach from there, as USC led it 13-4 after 10 minutes of action. USC stretched its rally to 12 straight points as Kayla Overbeck opened the second with back-to-back strikes before Long Beach State broke its silence with a layup to make it 17-6 USC at 6:35. A short spurt from the Beach got it to 19-10 midway through the second, but USC generated an 8-2 effort to close out the half, with Overbeck's 10th points of the day coming on a buzzer-beater in the lane to lead it 29-12 at the break.
In the third, Alissa Pili worked her way into her fourth double-double of the year just before fellow freshman Angel Jackson joined the scoresheet for the Trojans to lift USC ahead 41-20 with 3:00 to go in the frame.
