LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team nearly erased an 11-run deficit, but came up just short against Omaha, falling 12-9 on Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans trailed 12-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but would score the game's final eight runs to make it close down the stretch. USC falls to 2-1 on the year, while Omaha moves to 1-2.

A five-run first inning had the Trojans on their heels early and then a six-run fifth broke things open for the Mavericks. Thomas Debonville hit a three-run homer for Omaha in the fifth and Max Gamm drove in three runs for the visitors on the day as well.

CJ Stubbs plated the lone early run with an RBI double and would drive in a second run during a four-run fifth inning for the Trojans. Brady Shockey also drove in two runs on a single in the fifth and Brandon Perez singled one home as well.

The Trojans would score lone runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, and then got a pair of runs in the eighth, but that was it for the day. USC got a man on in the ninth, but left him stranded.

Quentin Longrie and Chris Clarke each tossed 2.0 scoreless innings to end the game as USC did not allow a run after the fifth.
