The Women of Troy claimed a second sweep on the first day of action at the Pac-12 South Invitational
TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (3-1) collected a 5-0 victory over No. 12 Stanford (1-5) in its second match at the Pac-12 South Invitational on Bear Down Beach on Saturday, March 2.
USC scored the first point of the dual on a straight-set win at the No. 5 position where junior Cammie Dorn and freshman Mollie Ebertin took down Shannon Richardson and Blake Sharp, 21-11, 21-16. At the other end of the lineup, senior Abril Bustamante and sophomore Tina Graudina delivered a 21-13, 22-20 win over Charlie Ekstrom and Sunny Villapando for a 2-0 USC lead.
The clinching point came from the No. 4 pair of junior Joy Dennis and sophomore Maja Kaiser. The duo served up the third USC point on a 21-13, 21-17 win over Maddie Dailey and Jordan McKinney.
With the dual decided, the Trojans tacked on a fourth point with a win at court two. There, senior Terese Cannon and sophomore Sammy Slater took down Tori Ashkinos and Courtney Bowen in straight sets, 21-15, 21-17. The third pair went to three sets. There, sophomore Haley Hallgren and senior Alexandra Poletto took a 21-17 win over Morgan Hentz and Amelia Smith, but dropped a 21-16 decision to the Cardinal duo in the second. Hallgren and Poletto took control in the third and came away with a 15-10 win.
Up next, the Women of Troy close out the Pac-12 South Invitational with a dual against Oregon (0-1) at 8 a.m. PT (9 a.m. MT) on Sunday, March 3, at Bear Down Beach. The dual will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks.
