No. 2 USC Beach Collects Pair of 4-1 Wins on Senior Day

The Women of Troy extended their winning streak to eight consecutive duals to close the regular season
LOS ANGELES – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (24-4) extended its winning streak to eight consecutive duals and concluded the regular season with a pair of 4-1 victories over No. 15 Grand Canyon (19-9) and No. 7 Cal Poly (19-9) at Merle Norman Stadium to celebrate Senior Day on Thursday, April 18.
The two wins improved the Trojans to 7-0 over the Lopes and to 3-0 over the Mustangs all-time.
In the day's first dual, USC scored its first point with a three-set win at the No. 3 position. There, senior Alexandra Poletto and sophomore Haley Hallgren defeated Katie Hess and Hannah Towne, 21-23, 21-14, 15-10. The Lopes won a three-setter at the bottom of the lineup to tie the score. In simultaneous finishes, the Trojans' No. 2 pair picked up the second point just moments before No. 4 completed a 21-16, 21-15 victory. The clinching point came from USC's pair of junior Joy Dennis and sophomore Maja Kaiser.
In a similar start to the match against Cal Poly, Hallgren and Poletto went three sets and got USC's first point on a 20-22, 21-11, 15-12 win over Jayelin Lombard and Kassandra Wright. The Mustangs then evened the dual with a three-set win at the No. 5 position. At the second court, senior Terese Cannon and sophomore Sammy Slater went straight sets for a 21-19, 21-18 win over Macy Gordon and Emily Sonny for the second USC point. At the top court, senior Abril Bustamante and sophomore Tina Graudina knocked off Crissy Jones and Tiadora Miric, 24-22, 21-16, to deliver the clinching point.
Bustamante-Graudina and Hallgren-Poletto each completed the regular season with 26-2 overall records and with eight-match winning streaks. Cannon and Slater finish the regular season with a 21-7 record and have won their last six. Dennis and Kaiser improved to 11-7 and won their fifth straight match.
