Women of Troy Fall 4-2 to UCLA

On a rare cloudy day in Los Angeles, the No. 15 ranked USC women's tennis team fell 4-2 to crosstown rival UCLA at Marks Stadium. With the loss, USC is now 17-6 overall and 7-3 in Pac-12 Conference play.
The morning began with doubles, and USC's No. 4 Kulikov/Valdes took an early 3-0 lead over UCLA's #12 Bolton/Hart on court one. On court two, the No. 8 Bruin pair of #8 Andrews/Broomfield claimed a quick 6-1 victory over USC's Weissmann/Willson on court two.
Back on court one, UCLA's Bolton/Hart fought back to push ahead and win the match 6-3 to collect the doubles point. Almost immediately after, the No. 49 Bruin duo of Altick/Miller finished their match by defeating USC's No. 90 ranked pair of Branstine/Jaeger 6-2 to make it a UCLA sweep of doubles.
In singles, UCLA's No. 24 ranked Elysia Bolton claimed a fast 6-1, 6-2 win over USC's Ana Neffa on court two.
The Trojans weren't out yet as No. 113 Angela Kulikov put the first point on the board for the Women of Troy with a 6-4, 6-1 win over UCLA's Ayan Broomfield on court three.
After winning her first set 6-4 on court four, USC's Rianna Valdes was down 0-3 in her second set to UCLA's Alaina Miller. In true Trojan form, Valdes fought back to win the second set 7-6 (5) to win her match and tie up the overall score at 2-2.
The Bruins responded back with another win as UCLA's Gabby Andrews tallied a 7-5, 6-4 win on court six over USC's Constance Branstine.
USC's Danielle Willson lost a close first set 7-6 (4) to UCLA's Abi Altick, however the two were neck and neck in the second set. After being down 5-6, Willson evened out the score at 6-6 to keep the Trojans alive and force a tiebreak. After a hard-fought battle, Willson fell 7-6 (4) to Altick who clinched the match for the Bruins.
USC now turns their eyes to the Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, Calif. which begins on Wednesday (April 24) and concludes on Saturday (April 27).
