No. 8 USC Whips Up 4-0 Win Over Washington In Pac-12 Quarterfinals

Trojans will make their eighth appearance in the tournament semifinals.
OJAI, CALIF. — The No. 8 USC men's tennis team continue their streak of semifinal appearances at the Pac-12 Tournament after whipping up a 4-0 win over Washington in today's quarterfinal round at Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif. The Trojans snagged a speedy doubles point and then pressed on to claim three straight-set singes victories on wins from Tanner Smith, Daniel Cukierman and Jake Sands. Now 18-7 overall, No. 2 seeded USC will face either No. 3 see3 Stanford or No. 6 seed Arizona in a 4 p.m. semifinal tomorrow (April 26).
Eventual singles winners as well, Daniel Cukierman and Tanner Smith combined forces in doubles for the first win of the day with a 6-0 shutout of Washington's Lumsden/Torocsik on court three. Soon after, USC's Jack Jaede and Laurens Verboven cruised to a 6-1 win over Lam/Sommer on court two, and USC was on to singles with a full head of steam and a 1-0 lead.
Senior Tanner Smith stayed in cruise control, delivering a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Washington's Adam Torocsik on court six to make it 2-0 Trojans. His doubles partner Cukierman captured the next win, beating Jack Davis by the same score on court two. With USC up 3-0, the Trojans had three players all holding 6-4, 4-1 leads on their Washington opponents. From court five, freshman Jake Sands closed out his match first out of that trio, clinching victory for USC with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sebastian Hawken to send the Trojans into the semifinals. USC has never missed a semifinal at the event since it began as a men's team competition in 2012.
