Head coach Lindsey Munday was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year and six Women of Troy received league honors
SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced its postseason awards on Thursday (May 2). Senior Jackie Gilbert (Pleasanton, Calif.) was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, junior Kerrigan Miller (Bayport, N.Y.) was chosen as the Pac-12 Midfielder of the Year for the second time, and seventh-year head coach Lindsey Munday was chosen as the Pac-12 Coach of the Year.
Gilbert and Miller each received Pac-12 All-Conference first team notice for the second times in their careers and were joined by sophomore midfielder Kelsey Huff (Eastport, N.Y.) and sophomore goaltender Riley Hertford (Lake Oswego, Ore.) on the first team. Senior attacker Emily Concialdi (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and sophomore attacker Sophia Donovan (Atherton, Calif.) were named to the Pac-12 All-Conference second team. Concialdi, Donovan, Hertford, and Huff all receive their first-career all-league selections.
Munday is named league coach of the year for the third time in her career. She was twice chosen as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Coach of the Year (2015, 2016). Munday was named USC's first coach in 2012 and has since led the Women of Troy to 95 victories and a .699 winning percentage (95-41). She guided the Trojans to the Pac-12's regular-season championship and the program's first Pac-12 tournament title. USC led the Pac-12 in free position percentage (.400), save percentage (.513), caused turnovers per game (10.63) and scoring margin (+5.79); and under Munday, will make its fourth NCAA appearance in five years.
Miller's second of back-to-back Pac-12 Midfielder awards is her third-career major league honor after being named the MPSF's Rookie of the Year in 2017. She led the league in caused turnovers (38) and caused turnovers per game (2.00) for the second straight season. Miller was chosen as the Pac-12 Tournament's Most Valuable Player and earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors this season to become the first player in league history to be named for both the defensive and offensive weekly awards in her career.
Gilbert led the Pac-12 in draw controls per game (6.11), which also ranks 22nd in the country. She was a key component to a stout USC defense that topped the league in caused turnovers (202) and goals-against average (7.94). Gilbert's prowess on the arc helped USC outscore its opponents, 28-8, to win its first Pac-12 Tournament crown.
Huff leads USC in scoring at 48 points (41g, 7a) and has 32 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers this season. She racked up her team-leading eighth hat trick in the Pac-12 championship game. Hertford leads the Pac-12 in goals-against average (8.12 gaa) and has picked up a team-high 60 ground balls to go with 14 caused turnovers this season. Concialdi has scored 30 goals and is the Trojans' top distributor with 16 assists. Donovan has scored 29 goals to go with 13 assists. She also has 22 ground balls, 10 draw controls, and nine caused turnovers.
As the champions of the Pac-12 tournament, the Women of Troy received an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. The NCAA will announce its 28-team bracket on Sunday (May 5) at 8 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
