All Three Trojans Score Wins In NCAA Singles First Round

Straight-set victories for all as USC’s crew moves on in NCAA action in Orlando.
ORLANDO, FLA. — It was a victorious opening day of NCAA Singles action for USC's contingent, as all three Trojans snagged straight-set wins in today's First Round. The trio of Daniel Cukierman, Brandon Holt and Tanner Smith now advance to tomorrow's Singles Round of 32, while Doubles action also starts up for Holt and Riley Smith out at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
In his third year with NCAA Singles action on his agenda, No. 5 seed Brandon Holt was all business in the first round. The junior drilled out a 6-1, 6-1 win over Liberty's #119 Nicaise Muamba in a morning match that sends Holt on to tomorrow's Round of 32. He'll carry an 11-match win streak into his faceoff against Georgia's #38 Emil Reinberg before turning his attention to NCAA Doubles play with partner Riley Smith in the evening. Holt and Smith have a tough opening match tomorrow, with the #10-ranked Trojan pair facing #8 Aguilar/Smith of Texas A&M.
Ranked #57 in the nation in singles, Tanner Smith seemed right at home in his first NCAA Individuals appearance. The high-powered senior punched up his sixth straight win as well as his ticket to tomorrow's Round of 32 with a strong 7-5, 6-3 win over Abilene Christian's #108 Josh Sheehy. Smith now steps into a clash against No. 8 seeded Oliver Crawford of Florida tomorrow.
The last Trojan to take the stage today, #24 Daniel Cukierman also made his NCAA Singles debut in squaring off against #51 Adam Walton of Tennessee. Cukierman also settled right into his first NCAA appearance, shrugging off a tight first set and then hitting the gas in the second to take down Walton 7-5, 6-2 and maneuver his way into the Round of 32 tomorrow against #54 Sam Riffice of Florida.
