Six Women of Troy Earn ACWPC All-American Accolades
May 30, 2019 | Women's Water Polo, Features
Paige Hauschild, Amanda Longan and Maud Megens earn another round of First Team honors.
Four-time All-American Amanda Longan leads a pack of six Trojans on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches' All-America list for 2019. The MPSF Tournament Champions and NCAA finalists rattled off a 28-2 overall record this season. Senior goalie Amanda Longan has locked up her third set of All-America First Team honors, while sophomore Paige Hauschild and Maud Megens are on the First Team honor roll for the second straight season. Coming in with All-America Honorable Mention this year are junior Denise Mammolito — now a two-time honoree — along with first-time All-Americans Alejandra Aznar and Kelsey McIntosh.Â
In four years of work as a Trojan, goalie Amanda Longan has collected a trio of All-America First Team selections along with Third Team honors. That makes her just the second USC goalie to be a three-time First Team All-American, following in 2012 Olympian Tumua Anae's footsteps. Also a finalist for the Peter J. Cutino Award again this year, Longan holds the distinction of the only USC goalie to win two NCAA Championships (2016 & 2018). The 2018 Cutino Award winner has worked her way up to rank as USC's No. 2 all-time saves leader with 840 career saves, having collected the fourth most single-season saves in USC history with 260 in 2019. Her senior campaign also saw her set a new career high with 19 saves made — second most in USC history — along the way to averaging 10.9 saves and just 4.7 goals-against per game this year.
A junior, Maud Megens stood tall as USC's top scorer in 2019 with 68 goals, running up her career total to 163 to rank No. 11 all-time at USC. Now a back-to-back First Team All-American, Megens was a Second Team pick as a freshman in 2017. Megens served up a season-high six goals this year and led all Trojans in scoring in 26 different games with 22 multiple-goal outings. Megens was named to the NCAA All-Tournament First team and was an All-MPSF First Team pick as well as a three-time MPSF Player of the Week honoree in her junior year.
Sophomore Paige Hauschild has the distinction of being a back-to-back Cutino Award finalist as well as a two-time First Team All-American. In just two seasons of work as a Trojan, Hauschild has cracked the 100-goal mark, gripping 117 career goals after serving up 49 in 2019. Heroic postseason efforts came from Hauschild, with her delivering the sudden-death winner to beat Stanford in the MPSF Tournament championship game. She also struck three goals in USC's 10-8 overtime win in the NCAA Semifinals against Cal. In all, Hauschild scored in 24 different games with 15 multiple-goal outings. She also was an All-MPSF First Team pick, and joined Megens with a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament First Team.
Now a two-time All-America Honorable Mention recipient, junior Denise Mammolito drummed up 29 goals in 2019 and also cracked the 100-goal mark as a Trojan along the way. Also an All-MPSF Honorable Mention selection, Mammolito was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Second Team. In all, she scored in 20 different games for the Trojans in 2019 and set a new carer high with five goals tallied early in the season. This year, Mammolito has two new Trojan All-Americans by her side. Fellow junior Kelsey McIntosh also snagged All-America Honorable Mention after punching up 34 goals this season. Also a first-time All-MPSF Honorable Mention recipient scored in all but one game during the MPSF and NCAA tournaments, finishing the year having struck the back of the net in 20 different games with 10 multiple-gal outings. In her first year as a Trojan, freshman Alejandra Aznar was USC's third leading scorer with 41 goals. She, too, scored in five out of USC's six postseason contests, finishing the year with at least one goal in 23 different games. She set her career high with five goals in her USC debut, and wound up with 11 multiple-goal games in 2019. Aznar also picked up All-MPSF Honorable Mention as well as a place on the MPSF All-Newcomer Team, and was a two-time MPSF Newcomer of the Week.
