July 13, 2019 | Men's Tennis, Features
Farah and teammate Juan Sebastian Cabal won the 2019 doubles championship at Wimbledon.
USC product Robert Farah has claimed his first career Grand Slam title in combining forces with fellow Colombian Juan Sebastian Cabal to win the 2019 Wimbledon Doubles Championship today (July 13) in London, England. A two-time NCAA Team Champion and 2008 NCAA Doubles Champion with Kaes Van't Hof, Farah joins an esteemed list of Trojans to have won a title at Wimbledon.
The last Trojan to win it all at Wimbledon was Rick Leach, who won doubles and mixed doubles crowns in 1990. The most recent Grand Slam title claimed by a Trojan was Wayne Black's 2005 Australian Open doubles championship.
Farah — also a 2016 Olympian — has seen great success as a pro since graduating from USC in 2010, but a Grand Slam title had eluded the Colombian native until today. Seeded No. 2 in the doubles draw Farah and Cabal played out an intense doubles final at The Championships at Wimbledon, beating out 11-seeded French pair Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in five sets 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-3 in a match that raged on for four hours and 56 minutes. Farah and Cabal also became the first Colombians to win at Wimbledon.
