Trojans get the road win to open conference play.
EUGENE, ORE. — The No. 1 USC men's tennis team captured a conference road win, staying perfect in its all-time series against Oregon with a 4-1 victory over the Ducks in Eugene. After pulling off a tight doubles point, the Trojans secured two quick singles wins from Daniel Cukierman and Mor Bulis before the Ducks got a point on the board. Sophomore Jake Sands would deliver the deciding blow from court six, and USC's first Pac-12 win of the year was in the books. USC is now 12-1 overall and 1-0 in Pac-12 play.
Oregon made a stand early in snagging an opening win, with Roberts/Lam handing USC's Stefan Dostanic and Brandon Holt a 6-4 loss on court two. At the top spot, USC's #19 Daniel Cukierman and Riley Smith forced the issue with a 6-4 win of their own to make court three the decider. That was a tight one, stretching into a tiebreaker. That's where Mor Bulis and Ryder Jackson took over, tallying a 7-6 (1) win to punch up a 1-0 lead for their Trojans.
That brought on singles action, with #1 Daniel Cukierman speeding to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Emmanuel Coste on court two. On court three, #15 Mor Bulis also made short work of his Duck opponent, drumming up a 6-3, 6-4 win to make it 3-0 Trojans. Oregon answered as Luke Vandecasteele posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over USC's #83 Ryder Jackson to make it 3-1, but USC was still in solid standing with first sets won on the other three courts in action. Jake Sands would put a stop to things from court six, nailing a 6-4, 6-1 clincher to the scoreboard to lock up victory for the Trojans.
Next up for USC is a journey to Seattle to take on Washington in a 12 p.m. Pac-12 clash on Sunday (March 1).
