Women of Troy Topped by Cal 6-1

After a three-hour rain delay, the match began at 3 p.m. PST. The Trojans struck first as Con. Branstine/Neffa defeated Cal's Dunk/Rosenqvist 6-1 on court two. The next two courts went to Cal as they nabbed the doubles point. Trojan pair No. 16 Cayetano/Kulikov lost 6-2 to Giavara/Valentina 6-2 on court one and the duo of Jaeger/Willson fell to Golden Bear pair Bright/Zeynel 6-4. The Trojans entered singles at a 0-1 deficit.
In singles, Cal continued to put points on the board. Trojan sophomore Danielle Willson fell to No. 34 Valentine Ivanov 6-3, 6-4 on court three, and USC junior Ana Neffa lost 6-4, 6-4 to Golden Bear Ana Bright on court four.
Cal's Jessica Zeynel clinched the match for the Golden Bears with her 6-3, 6-4 victory over USC's Estella Jaeger on court six.
Although Cal had clinched the match, the remaining courts were played out.
Trojan senior Constance Branstine put up a strong three-set battle, but fell 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-3 to Cal's Erin Richardson on court five. USC freshman Eryn Cayetano also took her match to three sets, but lost 7-6 (7), 5-7, 1-0 (9) to Cal's No. 57 Julia Rosenqvist.
USC senior No. 27 Angela Kulikov notched the only point of the day for the Women of Troy. She upset Cal's No. 15 Haley Giavara 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 on court one.
The Women of Troy turn their attention to a road match against Pepperdine on Saturday (Mar. 14) in Malibu, Calif. at 12 p.m. PST.
