No. 8 USC Lacrosse Stifles Golden Bears For 16-9 Win

Senior attacker Izzy McMahon scored a Trojan season-high five goals in the team’s sixth straight victory
LOS ANGELES – The eighth-ranked USC lacrosse team (6-0, 2-0 Pac-12) remained undefeated following a 16-9 decision over California (2-5, 0-2) at McAlister Field on Sunday, March 8.

- Sr. attacker Izzy McMahon matched her career best and set the Trojans' single-game season high with five goals. It was her 10th-career hat trick and she becomes the 10th player in program history to have at least 10-career hat tricks. McMahon also led USC with three draw controls and had one caused turnover.
- Three players had three points each: Gr. attacker Emily Concialdi had two goals and an assist. Jr. attacker Sophia Donovan had two goals and an assist and added a ground ball. Sr. midfielder Kaeli Huff had two assists and a goal.
- So. midfielder Katie Ramsay scored twice and secured two draw controls with one caused turnover and a ground ball.
- Jr. goalie Riley Hertford had her fifth 10-save game of the season and added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Jr. defender Lizzy Wagner caused four turnovers and picked up a pair of ground balls with a draw control.
- For the Golden Bears, Megan Mix scored a hat trick and picked up two ground balls. Quinnlyn Mason and Nikki Zaccaro each scored two goals apiece. Kacie Riggs led all players with eight draw controls. Makayla Ward took the loss but had five saves.
- McMahon and Concialdi scored the Trojans' first two goals and had USC off and running. Mix scored the first Cal goal from free position but the Trojans ripped through a 5-0 run over the next 17 minutes to lead by six.
- USC held the Bears scoreless for 22:50 before Mason scored to make it 7-2 at the break.
- McMahon scored three goals to Zaccaro's one through the first nine minutes of the second half to make it a 10-3 lead for the Trojans. Another 5-0 USC run started the running clock on a 15-4 lead at 11:46.
- After the Trojans emptied the bench, Cal scored four unanswered goals to stop the clock again, but freshman Caroline Cheetham put one more on the board at 1:45. Zaccaro scored the last goal of the game to make the final 16-9.
- USC improved to 10-1 all-time against California and has won 10 straight over the Bears. It is the longest head-to-head winning streak held by the Trojans against any one opponent. USC's average margin of victory in those 10 wins is 10.9 goals.
- The Trojans improved to 47-11 (.810) all-time at McAlister Field and to 51-13 (.797) in all-time home games.
- The Women of Troy go to 53-12 in all-time conference games (.815).
- USC's 6-0 start is the second-best start in program history behind only 2016's 20-0 start.
