USC Lacrosse Suffers 13-11 Setback at Colorado

The Women of Troy couldn’t withstand a seven-goal Buffalo run in the second half
BOULDER, Colo. – The USC lacrosse team (6-4, 3-2 Pac-12) was felled by Colorado (4-5, 2-3) on Kittredge Field by a 13-11 count on Friday, April 2. The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Women of Troy.

- Sr. attacker Izzy McMahon scored four goals and had an assist for her third straight hat trick game (13th career) and added three draw controls.
- So. attacker Ella Heaney had four points on three goals and an assist for her fourth-career hat trick.
- Gr. attacker Maddie McDaniel grabbed four draw controls, scored a goal, and picked up a ground ball.
- Fr. midfielder Madison Waters scored a goal, caused a turnover, and picked up three ground balls.
- Jr. defender Kaleigh Brennan grabbed four ground balls and caused a turnover.
- For Colorado, Sadie Grozier led with five goals and an assist. Zoe Lawless also had a hat trick with three goals. Eliza Cahill had four draw controls and picked up two ground balls. Julia Lisella had 13 saves and four ground balls.
- The Trojans led by as many as five goals in the second half when Heaney scored her third of the day at 25:42, but USC was held scoreless for the remainder of the game as CU went on a methodical 7-0 scoring run to claim the victory.
- USC had two different 3-0 bursts in the game; the first to take a 4-1 lead and the second to go up, 11-6, but each time, the Buffaloes had an answer.
- Grozier scored three unassisted goals during the 7-0 Colorado run at 16:33, 13:36, and 12:21, to pull the Buffaloes even at 11-all. USC had its chances, but Lisella put up two saves as Lawless capped the game with her goal at 3:43.
- USC heads up to Oregon to take on the Ducks (1-7, 1-3 Pac-12) at Papé Field on Sunday (April 4) at 2 p.m. PT. The game will be shown live on Pac-12 Networks. Oregon was scheduled to play Arizona State today but the game was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within the ASU program.
- USC fell to 8-4 all-time against Colorado and to 2-3 when the teams meet in Boulder.
- The Trojans drop to 5-7 all-time in games played in the state of Colorado and to 3-4 in Boulder overall.
