USC Beach Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to UCLA

The Women of Troy had a 12-dual winning streak snapped in the Pac-12 Championship winner’s bracket final
LOS ANGELES – The top-seeded and No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (25-3) had a 12-dual winning streak snapped by No. 2 seed UCLA (27-3) in a 3-1 loss in the winner's bracket final of the Pac-12 Championship at Mapes Beach on Saturday, May 1.Â

The Women of Troy now must defeat either fourth-seeded Stanford or fifth-seeded California in the contender's bracket final for a chance to play in the championship dual at 4 p.m. PT.

USC also had its three-dual winning streak over the Bruins stopped and fell to 15-12 all-time against UCLA. The Trojans go to 17-4 in duals at the Pac-12 Championship and to 71-16 in individual matches. The Trojans also go to 69-14 all-time against Pac-12 opponents.

UCLA scored points at the Nos. 2, 4, and five positions to win the dual. The Bruins got their first point at court two where Lea Monkhouse and Devon Newberry defeated graduate Julia Scoles and senior Sammy Slater, 21-15, 21-16. Moments later, UCLA claimed a 2-0 lead with a win at the No. 4 spot on a 21-17, 22-20 win by Megan Muret and Jacqueline Quade over senior Joy Dennis and freshman Delaynie Maple. The loss snapped the USC duo's 11-match winning streak.

USC got on the board with a win at the top court when All-American junior Tina Graudina and freshman Megan Kraft raced through a 21-11, 21-16 win over Lexy Denaberg and Savvy Simo to go to 10-1 this season.

The clinching point was scored from court five when Rileigh Powers and Jaden Whitmarsh completed a 21-18, 21-16 win over Trojan sophomores Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse to snap the sisters' seven-match winning streak.

At the No. 3 position, senior Haley Hallgren and graduate Hailey Harward lost their first set, 21-17, to Lindsey Sparks and Abby Van Winkle and trailed the Bruins, 19-18, in the second set when play was suspended.
