Trojans Claim Eight Events, Set Five Pool Records During First Day of UCLA Swim & Dive Dual

The No. 11 USC women's swim and dive team posted five pool records and claimed eight events during the first day of the two-day dual against UCLA on Friday (Feb. 11) at the Spieker Aquatic Center in Westwood, Calif.

With the first session of the two-day dual complete, the Trojans currently hold a 141-64 lead over the Bruins with 9 events up for grabs tomorrow. One of those nine events is the women's platform competition.Â

The Women of Troy swept both relays on Friday, opening the meet with a pool record in the 400y medley relay as Calypso Sheridan, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado, and Laticia Transom combined for a 3:29.07.Â

USC newcomer Caroline Pennington won the 1650y free in a pool record-worthy time of 16:00.73. Her teammate and fellow freshman Marlene Kahler took second in 16:35.93. Both clocked personal bests in the event this afternoon.Â

Senior Transom followed up Pennington's win with another Trojan victory, blasting a 1:43.10 in the 200y freestyle to take the event and post the third pool record of the day for USC.Â

The breaststroke specialist Dobler continued her unbeaten streak in the 100, posting a 58.09 for first. With her time, she also picked up the fourth pool record of the day for the Trojans. Shortly behind Dobler was Isabelle Odgers (second – 1:00.17) and Nicole Pavlopoulou (third – 1:00.48).Â

Trojan Jade Hannah (53.44) added to USC's point total, posting a win in the 100y back and leading a 1-2 Women of Troy finish. Junior Aela Janvier was second in 53.45.Â

UCLA claimed two events on Friday, taking both the 200y fly (Sam Baron) and the 50y fee. Bruin Claire Grover out-touched Trojan Delgado by .24 in the 50y free to take the event.Â

Senior Odgers took the 200y IM in 1:56.87 with teammate Pavlopoulou closely behind in 1:58.30 for second.Â

In the diving well, sophomore Maddie Huitt led the Trojans on 3-meter, claiming the event with 299.63. On 1-meter, USC finished 3-4-5 as Farrah Volpintesta took third (266.03), Nike Agunbiade claimed fourth (263.03) and Huitt rounded out the field finishing fifth (253.88).Â

The Trojan relay quartet of Sheridan, Dobler, Delgado and Transom returned to close out the afternoon with another win and pool record, this time in the 200y free relay (1:28.75).

The two-day dual concludes tomorrow with the final session scheduled for 12 p.m. PT at the Spieker Aquatics Center.Â
